Orthodontics moves teeth and improves the bite over a planned period. In Amman a common question is: conventional braces or clear aligners? The better option is the one that can achieve the needed movement with a routine you can keep — not the one that looks quieter in a photograph.
What are conventional braces?
Conventional braces use brackets bonded to the teeth, with wires adjusted at reviews. They stay in place for the length of the plan, apart from what is changed in the clinic. They can address many crowding, spacing, and bite problems, and they depend less on remembering to wear a tray each day.
What are clear aligners?
Clear aligners are a sequence of transparent trays made to a plan. They are worn most of the day and removed for eating and cleaning. Each tray moves the teeth a small step. They work only if they are worn for enough hours.
Practical differences
- Appearance: aligners are less noticeable; braces are more visible but stay in place
- Cleaning: aligners are removed for brushing; braces need careful cleaning around brackets
- Cooperation: aligners do little if they are not worn enough
- Type of movement: some movements are clearer with braces; some simpler cases may suit aligners
Why assessment matters more than choosing from a photo
Gums, decay, the bite, and the kind of movement required decide the appliance. A plan from a phone photo without examination may not fit the roots, the joint, or daily hygiene. Assessment also shows whether orthodontics is needed at all, or whether a restoration or filling is clearer.
