Extractions · 2026-05-01

When is a tooth extraction needed?

Extraction is considered when a reliable restoration is not possible, not simply because there is pain.

Extraction is discussed when too little tooth remains to hold a filling or crown reliably, or when the tooth threatens gums, bone, and neighbours. Severe pain does not automatically mean extraction; many of those teeth are discussed for a root canal or a restoration.

Common examples

  • A crown fractured down to a root that cannot be restored
  • Advanced gum disease with wide movement
  • A wisdom tooth causing repeated inflammation
  • A painful baby tooth that cannot be filled — with alternatives explained

After extraction, replacing the gap is discussed if it affects bite or appearance. An implant or bridge is not required after every extraction. In Amman that decision follows healing, or a plan made in advance.
