PFM means a crown with a metal inside and porcelain outside. Zirconia is a strong ceramic without that visible metal. Both are used for fixed restorations. The choice is not a contest over which sounds more premium.
What we consider
- Whether the tooth is at the front or the back
- Bite force and grinding habits
- How much space exists for the restoration
- The chance of a metal line if gums recede on some PFM crowns
